Check out a super low carb, keto-friendly fry substitute: Keto Halloumi Fries! Made with Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavor! I’ve tried a lot of “replacement” fries, jicama fries, avocado fries, zucchini fries — you name it. But this is hands down the best recipe by Heavenly Fan. So I came up with yet another fry recipe since I’ve been craving cheese fries! What other fry combos should I do? Chilli cheese? Truffle fries? Tell me in the comments!

This recipe is 2 net carbs per serving! Halloumi cheese is an amazing low carb option! Another great option are these almond flour fries.

What is Halloumi?

Halloumi or haloumi is a semi-hard, unripened, cheese made from a mixture of goat’s and sheep’s milk. It has a high melting point and so can easily be fried or grilled turning into a beautifully soft, squidgy, and salty fry that’s crispy outside.

Ingredients for Keto Halloumi Fries

PREP TIME: 15 minutes

COOK TIME: 10 min

RECIPE YIELDS:

INGREDIENTS

For The Fries:
1 package halloumi
1 tbsp Za’atar

Fry in avocado, olive or even beef’s tallow.

For The Sauce:
2 tbsp sour cream
1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp turmeric
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
salt & pepper to taste
1 tbsp chopped mint

For the toppings:
2 tbsp pomegranate seeds
1 tbsp chopped mint

Instructions for Keto Halloumi Fries

  1. Heat a shallow pan with your preferred oil. Pat your halloumi dry with a paper towel and cut into fries. Fry your cheese until golden brown and crispy. Remove from oil and place on a paper towel and sprinkle with Za’atar. Set aside.
  2. Make your sauce by mixing the sour cream and spices and half of the mint.
  3. Assemble your fries and top with the sauce, pomegranate seeds and fresh chopped mint!
