I’ve tried a lot of “replacement” fries, jicama fries, avocado fries, zucchini fries — you name it. But this is hands down the best recipe by Heavenly Fan. So I came up with yet another fry recipe since I’ve been craving cheese fries! What other fry combos should I do? Chilli cheese? Truffle fries? Tell me in the comments!

This recipe is 10 net carbs per serving, but it is sure worth it and oh so satisfying.

History and Variations of Cheese Fries

I love learning the history of some of our favorite foods, did you know that Cheese fries have been said to have grown in popularity in the United States after canned cheese products such as Cheez Whiz were introduced in 1952? Don A. Jenkins is said to have invented the chili cheese fry variation, at the age of 16, in Tomball, Texas. Throughout the Southwest US, cheese fries are often covered in melted cheddar cheese, bacon bits, jalapeΓ±o slices, and chives, and served with ranch dressing. Alternately, they are also served as carne asada fries.

Instructions

  1. Start making your “dough” for your fries. Mix together the almond flour, xanthan gum, and hot water. Mix together to create a dough and put into saran wrap and set aside for 15 minutes.
  2. Prep your ingredients. Chop some jalapeno and green onion for your toppings and set aside. Mix the meat and spices together and cook on a pan until browned and set aside.
  3. To make the cheese sauce, take a small pot and warm half your pea milk, add your cream cheese and then add your cheddar. If it is too thick, add the rest of the pea milk, if not, set aside. Add paprika and set aside.
  4. Roll out your fry dough and cut into thin shoestring fries. Heat a pan full of beef tallow and shallow fry your fries until golden brown. Rest on a paper towel and season with salt.
  5. Assemble your fries by adding the fries, cheese sauce, meat and then the toppings. Squeeze a lime over the top and enjoy!
